The Legend of Sa Llimonera: A Journey Through Time
Every house has a soul, a story whispered within its walls, and ours is no exception. When people ask us about the origins of Sa Llimonera, we can't help but smile, because its past is as rich and surprising as the stories we've lived within its walls.
We bought this house at the end of 1999, right at the turn of the century. Official documents dated it to around 1800, but when we started the renovation, we discovered something much deeper. The part of the house that is now the downstairs bedroom was originally the main living quarters, a small retreat dating back to an earlier time, perhaps even the 17th century.
Over time, the house grew. It was expanded and transformed into a bustling wine cellar. The door that now seems like an ornament in the entrance hall, looking to the left, was the entrance to the winemaker's living quarters. The walls of the ground floor told the story of a life dedicated to wine, with small rooms and niches. During the renovation, we had to demolish many of these partitions, but we did everything possible to preserve the original character of the house, keeping the beautiful cobblestones of the entrance that you still walk on today.
Our biggest surprise came when we discovered that the beams of the intermediate floor were in very poor condition. Removing them opened up the house to us in a spectacular way. For a moment, only the load-bearing walls and the staircase remained, and we found ourselves in a majestic space, with a ceiling almost seven meters high. It was like being inside a cathedral, breathtaking and moving. Although it broke our hearts, we had to rebuild the floor structure to make it habitable.
The house's history is marked by a great fire. At some point, flames consumed part of the structure, forcing its inhabitants to rebuild it. After this disaster, the cellar was inherited by a single woman with no family. Grateful to her lifelong seamstress, she left the house to her. After the seamstress, the house passed to her son, a man known in the village by his nickname: "Sereno." Thus, the house became known as "Cas Sereno," Sereno's house.
Some time later, another small fire broke out upstairs. If you look closely at the stone window in the first room upstairs, you'll see that soot stains still darken the stone. It's a silent reminder of a dramatic moment, an echo of the past that refuses to fade away.
But of all the stories we've heard, there's one that's at the heart of this house. In the garden, right where you are now, stands an old lemon tree. There's something about this tree that connects the whole village. Several neighbors have approached us to tell us that an ancestor of theirs planted it. Each with their own story. Perhaps there have been several lemon trees over time, or perhaps this tree, with its quiet wisdom, has simply always been here, watching the lives and stories of those who have lived in this place unfold.
Our Story in Sa Llimonera: Living the Dream
For us, this house has always been more than just a building; it's been the stage of our lives. We bought it in December 1999, and with it, our children, aged 8 and 6, experienced their first great freedom. In our apartment in Palma, they had never gone out alone. Here, in the village, we let them go to the bakery to buy "suizos," soft buns with crunchy sugar that they loved. It was a ritual of independence, and what they liked most was the feeling of being able to go on their own.
The first night we spent here is unforgettable. The construction was finished, but the electricity wasn't connected yet. We bought them Pikachu flashlights so they wouldn't be afraid in the dark. Their biggest worry wasn't the lack of light, but how they would heat their milk in the morning without a microwave. We actually had a stovetop, but for them, milk only existed if it came out of the microwave. To celebrate that first night, we bought special cereal bowls, which we still have. My older son chose one with little animals on it, and the younger one, of course, chose one with Mickey Mouse playing soccer.
As they grew, the house grew with us. Every four or five years, we saved up for a new renovation. And so, little by little, Sa Llimonera adapted to our family. One of the biggest projects was the swimming pool. It was the result of many years of hard work and a shared dream.
In 2017, when our children grew up and started spending less time at home, we felt that Sa Llimonera was becoming a bit too big for us. We had the opportunity to buy a smaller house and decided to rent this one out so that other families and groups of friends could create their own stories here. We love hosting people, and it makes us happy to know that you are now part of the Sa Llimonera story.
We hope you enjoy your stay and that this house gives you memories as special as the ones it has given us.

Our team
In this house, we've had the most loyal animals in the world. We started with two cats, Blanquita and París, followed by two dogs, Quina and Roni (our "Ronaldinho"). Then came Moixeta the cat, who had three kittens, and later, the three Jack Russells: dad, mom, and baby. Today, with my children's dogs, we're one big family. Sa Llimonera has always been a home full of life and joyful barks and meows.
